Qualifications, training and professional experience
I’ve always been interested in the English language – I enjoyed reading as a child and liked to write short stories. At the University of Sheffield I completed an undergraduate degree in English Language and Linguistics followed by a Masters degree in Historical Language Studies. Following this, I did a PhD in sociolinguistics.
After successfully completing my PhD, I set up my proofreading and editing business in January 2012. I’ve since proofread for students from many different countries, specialising in proofreading non-native English for international students.
I enjoy the variety in my work – I’ve proofread for students studying subjects as diverse as architecture, biology, business, English, engineering and history.
To enhance my professional skills, I successfully completed the Basic Proofreading course run by the Publishing Training Centre. Through this course, I gained proficiency in using all of the BSI proofreading marks.
In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my friends and family. I like to get out into the countryside whenever I can, and enjoy walking in the hills of the Peak District.
